Leontief was an Economist of United States who was born in Russia in 1906. In1973, he won the Nobel Prize for his remarkable contribution to the Input-OutputAnalysis. In 1953, with the help of Input-Output Analysis, Leontief used the data of1947 to analyze the structure and the factor intensity of the import and the exportgoods in the United State. The results suggested that the competitive importreplacements of the United States were capital intensive while the export was laborintensive;in other words, his findings were contrary to the H-O Theory, therefore, theconfusing resul was later called Leontief's Paradox. After Leontief, a number of scholars have carried out a series of empiricalstudies and put forward a series of new international trade theories including theProduct Cycle, Technology Gaps and imperfect competition etc. This article covers five chapters: Chapter One is about Leontief and his academicachievements;Chapter Two represents Input-Output Analysis;Chapter Three dealswith the Paradox and the explanation of the paradox;Chapter Four tells us someclassic empirical studies of Leontief's Paradox;and Chapter Five is about thesignificance of Leontief's Paradox and some empirical studies on the paradox inChina.
