Container Ship A Large-scale Economic Research

With the strengthening of the international economic communications and the development of the international trade and navigational technology, the enlargement trend of the container ship is getting more obvious. The number of the ultra-large container ships is growing daily. Drivern by the scale economic effects, the trend of enlargement and ultra- enlargement of the container ships has been receiving wide attention of the shipping field.The aim the thesis is to develop a powerful quantitative model, by which the net proceeds of the larger container ships can be evaluated, on the basis of which the container ships of different tonnage to be launched in different situation can be compared. The purpose to develop such a quantitative model is not to calculate the absolute cost but to provide a model for comparing the cost disparities between different container ships in shipping.The thesis introduces the progress and current situation of the containership enlargement, make a detailed analysis of the global economic situation and container shipping market, predicts the total volume of the international container transportation and further analyzes the factors influencing the trend of the enlargement of the containerships.The main parts of the thesis starts with the cost, analyzes the advantage of the scale economic effects of the containerships enlargement to construct a model for caculating the cost of container shipping and makes conclusions through evaluating the results of the model.At last, the author gives some suggestions for the Chinese shipping industry under the circumstance of the trend of containership enlargement.
