Resource-based cities are developed with the development and use of natural resources. Resource-based cities have now become China's major energy and raw materials base and made a significant contribution to national economic and social development. But because of shrinking resources, industrial restructuring , such as changes in market demand, resource-based cities are facing to continue to provide the necessary resources and the development of the national economy maintained the dual challenges of sustainable development in their own cities. Particularly in the establishment of the socialist market economic system, resource-based cities can't adapt to the new economic changes in the social environment, urban economic development has been slow and the achievement of sustainable development is imminent.Gejiu city is a typical urban-based resources in comparison with other resource-based cities, Gejiu city, in geographic features, natural resources, social development, has typical significance. Research of the sustainable development strategy of Gejiu city is a good example of researching resource-based cities. The research is not only conducive to the promotion of sustainable economic development of Gejiu city, but also available for sustainable development of other types of resources cities and enriches and improves the sustainable development research system.The key issue of sustainable development is development. For area (city) economic development, to find a sustainable development way with local characteristics is extremely important. Taking Gejiu city as an example, this paper explores the dominant industry of Gejiu City. Combining with above study, the thesis makes some academic thinking about the sustainable development of Resource-based cities.
