With the sustainable development of global economy, the trade volume demonstrates the situation of fast growth. And this trend also results in the development of the liner shipping. As the liner shipping market becomes more and more normative, the competition between liner companies turns more serious. In order to benefit from scale economy, the container ships become larger. Thus, the problem about the utilization of the large container ship arises. Therefore, the structure of the global liner shipping network has changed into the feeder-truck combined liner shipping network. In view of the situation described above, from the cost-efficiency angle, this dissertation optimizes the liner shipping network. The object is to help the liner company to utilize the fleet reasonably and improve the cost- efficiency of the network.This dissertation is divided into six chapters to research and discuss the optimization of the liner shipping network.Chapter One describes the background and signification of the dissertation, and summarizes the method in the world. Also this part put forward the method this dissertation used. Chapter Two introduces the theoretical foundation of the dissertation and annotates the conception of the liner shipping network and confirms the affecting factors. And then, after analyzing the current situation of the liner shipping network, this part puts forward the signification of the optimization of the liner shipping network. Chapter Three applies the concept of cost-efficiency into the liner shipping network and finds out some problems and principle which should be taken into attention when optimizing the network. Chapter Four builds the linear program model according to the former chapters. A heuristic algorithm is used to solve the model. Chapter Five applies the model into a real case from company C, and analyzes the results.
