This thesis presents a comprehensive analysis on current situation of the China telecommunication industry basing on existing research publication. It expatiates on the trend of the China telecommunication industry maturing through the phone users penetrate rate analysis, the development status of value added service, the decline of ARPU and the changing of operator amount; this thesis reviews the stepwise opening schedule of China telecommunication industry which was required by WTO and analyzed competition field and method of foreign telecom operator within China market to reveal a series of challenges in front of telecom operator after China joined WTO."Next Generation Network -NGN development"and"Next Generation Mobile Access Network -3G or -4G controversy"make the China telecommunication industry facing direction choice of future communication technology. From the aspects of technology development and market demand, this thesis concluded that the choice for the next generation communication technology should depend on market requirement and enterprise benefit. For the problem of lacking effective competition, the thesis analyzes customer development strategies and operating profits of each telecom operator to explain unbalanced characteristic of the China telecommunication business and the current situation of lacking effective competition. The thesis also analyzes the reason of lacking effective competition and its damage on telecommunication business development. In Chapter 5, focusing on the challenges and questions of China telecommunication business, five strategies are introduced and analyzed which included adjusting the structure of telecommunication industry, the strategy transformation of telecommunication corporations, strengthening brand strategy, implementing multinational strategy and enhancing service level. Especially on adjustment plan of the telecommunication operator industry, the thesis presents a practicable scenario with less adjustment. That is: The China Unicom sells their CDMA networks or GSM networks to the China Netcom and the China Telecom; the China Mobile sells or spins-off their GSM networks in part provinces to the China Netcom and the China Telecom; keeping the existing four leading operators and offering them a relative effective competition environment.
