With the rapid development of network and communication technology, networked manufacturing, the advanced manufacturing model, is getting far more importance to manufacturing enterprises in China, which also has become an important direction of manufacturing research and practice. At present, the number of CNC machine tools in all the enterprises is increasing day by day under the trend of the fast developing of manufacturing, however, the existing organization form and management mode not only have failed to meet the need of production, but also have affected the CNC utilization efficiency. Therefore, it is a vital problem for many enterprises to make a network transformation of their CNC workshops on the basis of the current ones.In accordance with the requirements of CNC workshop for network transformation of Engineering Training Center of Nanjing University of Science & Technology, this paper, on the basis of serial port, computer network and CNC technology, conducted an in-depth investigation and analysis of the actual situation of network manufacturing system and center workshop, and finally made a proposition of an overall networking design scheme of network CNC machine tools based on LAN.The system networking design is based on the existing Point-to-Point networking communication to transform the interface protocol between workshop servers and CNC machine tools by using a serial port server and accomplish a communication management mode of one industry control computer controlling many CNC machine tools simultaneously. The communication between workshop server and CNC host machine is realized by the use of Client/Server structure and TCP/IP protocol with LAN of the center.Meanwhile, DNC system software is developed by taking the idea of modular design and by the main use of the object-oriented modeling methods, which takes Windows systems as its development environment and uses the relational database, SQL Server 2005 to make a background management of system related data, to achieve the functions of DNC system transmitting and managing numerical control program and other related information.At last, an in-depth study of related technology of real-time data acquisition system of CNC machine tools is made and furthermore, an detailed analysis of its dynamic data acquisition process using a mean of user's macro program by taking FANUC Oi series CNC machine tools as an example.The system has been tested preliminarily in the Engineering Training Center and also set up the foundation for the center to accomplish product automation or FMS system in the future.
