Based on the composing of UV-curable coatings, from the perspective of molecular designing, a novel UV-curable reactive diluents, benzyl glycidyl ether acrylate(BGEA) was synthesized by ring opening reaction between benzyl glycidyl ether(BGE) and acrylate acid(AA). After that, the BGEA was modified by nano-SiO2 which was coated by KH-570.In this paper, the reaction time, reaction temperature, reaction catalyzer and mole proportion of reactant of BGEA synthesis was optimized, and the product was characterized by FTIR. Furthermore, the mechanic properties of the mixed coating of BGEA and epoxy acrylate resin were also studied, such as pencil hardness and impact resistance. The chemical effect of BGEA as novel reactive diluents was also studied by TG, AFM etc. The result showed that the best mass fraction of BGEA is 25%.After that, a novel reactive diluents nano-SiO2-BGEA was synthesized using BGEA, nano-SiO2 and silane coupler (KH570). The section and surface were observed by SEM. The products were mixed with bisphonel-A epoxy acrylate resin as reactive diluents and prepared by different mass fraction of nano-SiO2-BGEA. The thermal and mechanical properties of the products were also studied by TG and UV-visible spectrophotometer. The results showed that the thermal properties of the UV-curable coatings were enhanced by nano-SiO2, and the transparency of the coatings was not affected by the adding of nano-SiO2.
