With China's accession to the WTO, the oil refining industry entered the era of micro profit in the world economic cycle. High efficient technology and management are the keys to the survival of enterprises and large companies over the world. PIMS as an excellent optimization software is introduced into Shengli Refinery. They hope they can get more profit through improving management techniques and restructuring the process design patterns.An operation optimization model has been built by using PIMS based on practical operate conditions of Shengli Refinery. This paper calculated the benefit of the heavy oil hydrogenation (VRDS) and the 2-catalytic cracking(2FCC) using this model, and when the gross of the wax oil hydrogenation was 54.300 tons, the benefit could reach up to 41.22 million yuan, this simulation result was close with the actual financial measurement, so this model was credible.This model was used to program the type selection of crude oil and processing technology of residual oil and wax oil. It was also applied to make a comparison of profit among the heavy oil hydrogenation (VRDS),2-catalytic cracking (2FCC) suspension and hydrocracking (HC) suspension. Planning and analysis of "HC operation, VRDS and 2FCC suspension" and "HC suspension, VRDS and 2FCC operation" could generate 20.34 million yuan economic benefits, then planning and analysis of "small reforming operation and big reforming suspension" and "big reforming operation under 60% load" could generate 25.96 million yuan economic benefits.The refinery PIMS model of this study was powerful, fast, flexible and simple to use. This model could facilitate to conveniently obtain an operation scheme of strong maneuverability, and had a good performance in optimization of raw materials procurement, working process, product structure and production management, then successfully solved many problems for Shengli Refinery such as the choice of crude oil, device processing capacity, finding factors of production bottlenecks and so on,. So it played a positive role in choosing oil, planning and calculating benefits.
