The drawing process is the key process of automobile panel forming. And the design of drawing die-face is the main contents of panel stamping process design. The characteristic of automobile panel forming and the designers'experience in die-face design are analyzed in the paper. The key technologies in die-face design, such as addendum design, blank holder design and surface pretreatment methods are also deeply researched in the paper. Based on the research, a common process of die-face design is established, and a useful computer aided system for die-face design has been developed.The addendum surface design is one of the key contents of drawing die-face design. In this paper, the parameterized section curves are used to create the addendum surface. The section features of the common addendum surface are researched, and a template library with 9 types of section curve templates has been established using parametric technology. Though the analysis and calculation of the product surface boundary, a section curve can be created by creating an instance of the section curve template. And the parameterized addendum surface can be generated with section curves and control curve, which is also associated with section curves.The information of die-face created in CAE software is very important to drawing die-face design. The characteristic of blank-holders and section curves that imported from CAE software is deeply researched, and the methods to recognize and reconstruct the imported blank-holders and section curves have been proposed and realized.The pretreatment of the panel product surface has great influence with the efficiency and quality of drawing die-face design. By researching the features of variety kinds of products, the common difficulties in surface pretreatment are summed up. And the realization program of three types of surface pretreatment methods, including double stamping pretreatment, U-end surface repair and the outline gaps repair, has been proposed and realized, which improves the quality and efficiency of the die-face design and the practicality of the system.
