Today's world, sustainable development is the research forefront and hot, and the environment problems have become obstacle to tourism development, so it is a new attempt and a new exploration to apply the theory of the ecological footprint to tourism carrying capacity analysis for tourism development and management. Touristic ecological footprint theory which is derived from the theory of ecological footprint is a useful management tool as measuring and assessing the sustainability of regional tourism development. This theory was used to research Changyang Qingjiang scenic area's ecological footprint, tourism ecological carrying capacity and tourism ecological deficit / surplus, and to make suggestions for Changyang Qingjiang scenic area as tourism management references.By analyzing Changyang Qingjiang scenic area's touristic ecological footprint and touristic ecological carrying capacity, the following major conclusions could be drawn:(1) In 2007, tourism development of Changyang Qingjiang scenic area was within the limit of ecological carrying capacity and in the state of sustainable development, forming a total 21596.0786hm2 ecological surplus, per capita was 198.4908×10-4hm2.(2) Judging from the consumption structure, tourism transport ecological footprint occupied the largest share, 81.3%, tourism transport and tourism catering accounted for 99.2% of the total ecological footprint. Green transportation mode should be vigorously promoted, the low power transportation modes should be selected, and clean energy should be used. Biogas and other renewable energy sources can be used in tourism catering industry to improve the utilization of agricultural waste, while promoting healthy balanced diet to change the current consumption structure of meat, grain and fish-based food. (3) Judging from the bio-productive land types, there was a phenomenon of asymmetry between supply and demand. The existing bio-productive land utilization was low and with great development potential.(4) Affection factors of tourism development of Changyang Qingjiang scenic area were energy consumption structure, food consumption structure, number of tourists, grade of accommodation facilities, number of beds, tourism products consumption structure, transportation modes, transportation conditions, bio-productive land productivity and so on.
