The hydrostatic bearing is a parts of heavy-duty CNC boring lathe which can subject to both vertical and horizontal loads.With a small frictional resistance, long life, wide speed range, and good vibration resistance, the hydrostatic bearing is a important parts which ensure the precision of workpiece. The film lubrication characteristics of hydrostatic bearing directly affect the work of turning performance, reliability and longevity, therefore the lubrication characteristics and properties of the hydrostatic bearing was researched based on the theoretical analysis and numerical simulation in this paper.Related research at home and abroad of the hydrostatic bearing was analyzed at first. Then the characteristics and the working principal of the hydrostatic bearing was described. The model of the oil pad was simplified reasonably and the flow equation and the stiffness formula of the hydrostatic bearing was derived according to the flow characteristic in plate gap. Based on numerical simulation method of the finite volume computational fluid dynamics, a suitable computer simulation model and boundary conditions was selected. The flow condition and flow field parameters of the oil was obtained after iteration using CFX. The results show that the curve of the static characteristics derived from numerical simulation was fit well with the theoretical value. velocity distribution curve of the oil pad was obtained from the simulation on the oil in the chamber and oil film of the hydrostatic bearing. The areas which highest temperature areas occur was find. The main factors which affect the working temperature of the bearing was analyzed. The curve of relationship between the average temperature and speed of workpiece was drawn. The working performance which effected by the circumferential grooves and the effect of temperature and viscosity was analyzed. Finally, the working performance of the hydrostatic bearing with different diameter and with circular cavity was analyzed. Through the analysis and research above, the static performance characteristic of hydrostatic bearing was studied in this paper. Flow mechanism of the oil in bearing clearance was revealed. Influence of is several main parameters on hydrostatic bearing is discussed through multiple numerical simulation on the internal flow field. This research provides theoretical calculation method for the design of such bearing, provides a theoretical basis for researching on the performance characteristics of hydrostatic bearing, provides a theoretical evidence for designing rational structure and excellent performance of the hydrostatic bearing.
