Due to the diversity of topology, unusual magnetic and photophysical propertity of lanthanide complexes, there is increasingly a special interest on them in decades. Because of the potential application in luminescence, magnetic, electrochemistry and catalyst, the coordination of complexes with ligands of Salen class have been studied extensively.Ten N,N'-bis(2-hydroxy-3-methoxy Benzylidene)-1,3-diaminopropane (H2L) 3d-4f heternuclear metal complexes have been isolated and structural characterized. X-raycrystallographic analysis showed that the complexes {[Cu(L)Cl]LnCl2 (MeOH)2}·MeOH [Ln = La (1), Gd(2) and Dy (3)] are all binuclear neutral complexes, complexes {[Cu(L)MeOH]2LnCl}(PF6)2·4H2O [Ln = La (4), Gd (5), Dy (6)] are all tri-nuclear ionic complexes. Complex [Gd2Cu4L4Cl2(OH)](PF6)3 (7) is a novel hexanuclear ionic complexes. Complex {[Zn(L)Cl]2NdCl}·2MeOH (8) is trinuclear neutral complex. Complex {[Cu(L)]Gd(OAc)3}·H2O (9) is binuclear neutral complex. Complex {{[Zn(L)]Yb}2(OAc)3·5H2O}(PF6) (10) which is a novel tetranuclear complexes. The variable-temperature magnetic properties of complexes 1-7 and 9 have been investigated over the temperature range 2-300 K at 1000 Oe. All complexes exhibit ferromagnetic interactions between metallic ions. The Near infrared luminescence analysis show that the luminescence of complexes 8 and 10 are the lanthanide ion emission, complexes 8 and 10 both have two lifetimes which belong to microsecond.
