With the rapid development of the railway to the "heavy cargo and passenger high-speed", demanding on the locomotive performance has become increasingly. Independent research and development of the semi-hanging high-speed locomotives have been finished. EMD high-power diesel locomotive has been produced.In the locomotive industry, box castings are widely used, such as the diesel engine bearing and axle box. Casting quality will directly affect the overall performance of the locomotive. With the development of Pro/ENGINEER and the MAGMA software, it is more and more applied in the enterprise to guide the producing. Through the simulation of the filling and solidification process, casting defects can be predicted and the casting process parameters can be optimized to ensure casting quality, reduce producing cycle and costs.In this paper, the casting process of this boxlike part has been studied by Pro/ ENGINEER software and MAGMA simulation software. By combined with the needs of the actual production plants, the casting process of the axle box, holder and other box have been simulated and analyzed, the key is the gating system and feeding system, The defects of can be predicted, remedial measures taken in advance, by comparing the simulation results with trial results, the casting process parameters and programs to optimize the design, and achieved very good results. At the same time increase productivity, improve product quality! To post production and laid a solid foundation.
