Electric desalting process is an effective method for preventing equipment corrosion, control of metalion content and improving waste water quality. Reseach related to desalting and dehydration process and developing new equipment is an important issue in the field of petroleum processing.SuiZhong and LuNing crude oils are of heavy crude oil and they are very difficult to remove water and salt from them. This work used a new desaler, which has two oil inlets and two electric fields in the desalter. First, basic properties of the crude oils were tested. Then, static experiment was carried out to select demulsifier. Based on that, conditions including demulsifer dosage, water inject amount, temperature, intensity of the electric fields and blending intensity were investigated. Results showed that optimal condition are 30μg/g HJ99101 demulsifier,130-140℃,6% water injection, 1000V/cm and 60kPa. In the case of Luning pipeline crud oil, optimal conditions are 30μg/g MJ1083,130-140℃,5% water injection, 1000V/cm and 50kPa.Under these experimental conditions, the result of treated two heavy crude oils show that salt contents are less than 3 mg/L and the water contents are less than 0.3%, which reached the required standard of Sinopec.In addition, some comparative experiments were also carried out using Suizhong as feedstocks. No demulsifier was compared with using demulsifier; one inlet was tested for obtaining the comparation of the result of two inlets. Various sampling points in different locations in the electric field are also installed sampling pipe, which could withdraw treated oil in the electric fields. Results showed that the desalter with two inlets and two electric fields has many advantages over the conventional desalters. The industrial applications could solve the difficulty for removing water and salt in heavy oils.
