N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-propanolamine(i. e. DEIPA) was synthesized in mol ar ratio 1:1 of DEA to PO, and N,N-bis(2-hydroxypropyl)-N-(hydroxyethyl)a mine (i.e. EDIPA) was synthesized in molar ratio 1:1 of DIPA to EO, and th eir opotimum conditions were as follows:the reaction temperature was 333K, the reaction time was 60 mintues.The respective Yield of DEIPA and EDIPA were 96.7% and 97.9%. It were simple process with moderate reaction cond itons and high yields.The synthesis of DEIPA from MIPA and EO was studied in molar ratio 1:2, the opotimum conditions were as follows:the reaction temperature was 333K, the reaction time was 60 mintues. Yield of DEIPA was 94.1%; and ED IPA was synthesized in molar ratio 1:2 of MEA to PO, the opotimum condi tions were as follows:the reaction temperature was 333K, the reaction time was 90 mintues, Yield of EDIPA as high as 96.8% was obtainable. It were s imple process with moderate reaction conditons and highe yields.Their effects on cement properities were studied, and better than the ordinary cement grinding aids as TEA&TIPA, the cement compressive strengt h in all ages were improved when DEIPA&EDIPA were added to cements, and w as benificial.The effects of DEIPA&EDIPA and TEA&TIPA were similar on ce ment properties including normal consistency, setting time, fineness and f luidity etc.DEIPA and EDIPA were excellent cement grinding aids.
