In order to improve the dispersion stability of MC nano-particle in phenolic resin, the surface of MC nano-particle was modified by three types of dispersants:the hyperdispersant, the Zircoaluminate coupling agent and the alkylcarboxylates in this paper.Different hyperdispersants have been used to modify the surface of MC nano-particle, and the quadripolymer, which was chosen by the test of viscosity about the system, was the best one to improve its dispersion stability in the solvent. When the modifier dosage was 2wt%, the optimum technological condition was obtained. The Zircoaluminate coupling agent was selected as dispersant, mainly because there is more inorganic characteristics in its molecule that has more inorganic reactive sites, which can strengthen the surface effect between nano-particle and the dispersant, so the nano-particle will not accumulate easily. IR, UV, TEM, Sedimentation experiment, Viscosimetry were used to characterize the dispersibility of MC nano-particle. The results showed that when the modifier dosage was 5wt%, the MC nano-particle could best disperse in the solvent. The dispersion stability of the MC nano-particle with the surfactant of alkylcarboxylates was quantitatively examined. Compared with those MC nano-particle dispersed by the surfactant of hyperdispersant and Zircoaluminate coupling agent, the nano-particle with the alkylcarboxylates have far-improved dispersion stability. It is worth noting that all these three dispersants were used in two ways:the direct addition method and the pre-treatment method. Interestingly, the pre-treatment method was found more effective to improve the dispersion stability of MC nano-particle.
