The low twist yarns studied in this paper is a kind of yarns produced by false-twist and siro-spinning. Several aspects of the low twist yarns and fabrics were studied in the paper:1. Three different twist cotton yarns made by the above methods were tested and analyzed, including yarn structure, twist, twist liveliness, hairiness values, evenness, tensile properties and surface friction properties. The conclusion is that the low twist yarns have the following characteristics:(1)Less twist, the coefficient of twist is below 280; (2) Poor twist liveliness; (3) Fluffy structure and soft hand feeling; (4)High hairiness value; (5) Low unevenness; (6) Low strength and elongation, and the lower twist, the lower strength and elongation.2. The weaving properties of low twist yarns were studied. The results show that the weaving properties of the sample yarns are qualified for practical mass production.3. The fabrics knitted by the three kinds of cotton yarns were dyed and finished. Several relevant physical indexes and leavening degrees of these fabrics were tested and compared.4. The wearing properties of these fabrics were tested, compared and analyzed. The conclusions can be drawn as follows:(1) The appearance of the fabrics, including the wale spirality of these unfinished jersey-based fabrics, the wale spirality of these finished jersey-based fabrics after washing and the pilling resistance of these finished interlock fabrics, were tested and analyzed. The results indicat that low twist yarns gave less wale spirality, but poorer pilling resistance.(2) The bursting strengths of the fabrics were tested and analyzed, and the conclusion is that low twist yarns can slightly decrease the bursting strength, and the lower the yarn twist, the smaller the bursting strength of fabrics.(3) Heat-moisture comfort, including heat resistance, moisture vapor transmission, air permeability and hydraulic conductivity, were tested and analyzed. It shows that lower yarn twist brings greater heat resistance, better warmth property, lower moisture vapor transmission and air permeability and better hydraulic conductivity.(4) The bending rigidity, drape and friction performance of the fabrics were measured. The conclusions are as following: The lower yarn twist makes softer, more slippery waxy and better drape fabrics.According to the conclusion of this paper and the requirement of knitted apparel market, the low twist yarns studied in the paper are suitable for development of the knitted underwear, such as knitted warmed underwear, thin lingerie used in autumn and winter, and the forming knitted fabrics. And that enriches the knitted apparel market and meet the demand of high quality, comfortable knitted apparel.
