Numerical control machine is developing with high speed, high efficiency, high precision and good stability which not only is required to have good static performance, but also good dynamic performance. To study machine tool's holisitic dynamic characteristics, its dynamic model must be established. So it's very important to study the method of creating machine tool's dynamic model for forecasting its holistic dynamic performance, realizing its weakness and optimizing its design. Its dynamic model and holistic dynamic performance of a vertical machining center are studied in this thesis.Firstly, the FE model of a vertical machining center KVC1050N is eatablished, and the equivalences of characteristics of machine tool's joints is studied. The vibration modals of two models for rigid connection and flexible connection between components of the machine tool are calculated, and their results were compared to study that the characteristics of joints have great effect on holistic dynamic performance of the machine tool.Secondly, the vibration modal of the machine tool was tested using hammer and some heating equipments, which was compared with the FE analytic results. The compared result shows that the dynamic model for flexible connection is true, and the only model of correctly considering joints' characteristics can be used to forcast holistic dynamic performance. On the basis, research characteristics of glued joint on the impact of holistic dynamic performance, and find the best gluing thinkness bound is 1.5-2mm which gives instruction to glued process.At last, the weak joints of machine tool were found based on the analytic results of resonance response. To use the method of orthogonal trial, study stiffness of joints on the impact of holistic dynamic performance, and optimize holistic dynamic performance of machine tool. The right measure of throwing joints' characteristics into holistic dynamic model was raised, and it was put forword that the joints' basic characteristics partmeters was applicable to machine tool'dynamic performance optimization through researching holistic dynamic performance of a vertical machining center.
