Ecological safety has a close bearing on environmental quality. And it has an important role in social and economic development, and it is also important for the rational use of natural resources in future. Although the academic circles have no unified definition of ecological safety at the present time, it cannot be denied that ecological safety is a criterion of sustainable development, which areas must keep when they exploit natural resources.Based on analyzing the state of ecological environment of Wuhan in this paper, make advances on ecological security of Wuhan adopt energy-ecological footprint method. Then set up the indices system of ecological security assessment and divide ecological safety scales. Ecological carrying capacity and ecological footprints were calculated in this paper. On the basis of the calculation result, the present situation of Wuhan ecological security are investigated by the method energy-ecological footprint and predict its trend. According to the analysis, effective measures to improve the ecological security are proposed.The main conclusions are as follows:(1) Ecological carrying capacity and ecological footprints of Wuhan were researched in time series which was from2001to2010used energy-ecological footprint model. The results indicated that ecological carrying capacity and ecological footprints of Wuhan both showed the fluctuation increased trend from2001to2010. The ecological footprint per capita ecological capacity of fossil energy land, farmland and waters in Wuhan is very obvious.(2) Ecological deficit per capita and ecological footprint for each10,000Yuan of GDP were downtrend. Strength of ecological footprint continue to increase, and the pressure on the eco-environment is building up. The ecological security of Wuhan is under threat. The ecological pressure index showed the fluctuation increased trend, and the ecological environment of Wuhan is relatively safe in recent10years. But the ecological environment soon became unsafe when analysis it combining the developing trend of the ecological pressure index.(3) By using the gray forecasting model, this paper makes forecasts the developing tendency of ecological carrying capacity and ecological footprints in Wuhan from2011to2019. Then evaluate the ecological safety warming levels according to the actual situation of Wuhan. The study result shows that per capita ecological footprint and ecological capacity per capita are on the rise in the last nine years. But the growth of per capita ecological footprint is faster than ecological capacity per capita. Ecological footprint for each10,000Yuan of GDP has a decline trend, and the ecological pressure index increased more than doubling. So the ecological security of Wuhan is on the chopping block. Then the author put forward the corresponding countermeasures based on the present state and development trend in future of Wuhan ecological security, ensuring environmental security.
