Natural Disaster And Relief Measure Of Northwest Since The Founding Of People's Republic Of China(1949-2000)

The northwest district of China (Shaanxi Province, Gansu Province, NingxiaProvince, Qinghai Province and Xinjiang Province) is an area of natural disastershappened frequently from ancient times. Since the PRC was founded, themeteorological disasters like drought, flood, hail damage, frost hazard and winddamage happened from time to time in this area, and disasters like earthquake,landslide, earth subsidence and debris flow were also serious, These disasters not onlymade people suffer the severe loss of lives and properties, but also is a key factor torestrict the economic development of the northwest area, and, they related to thedevelopment campaign of the western regions. Therefore, it is very important toresearch the prevention and relief disasters. It aims to cope with the threat of naturaldisaster orderly, and make the casualty loss of disasters to minimum.Through collecting and gathering related document literature, this paper acquiresrelated information of western regions' disasters in China since the PRC was founded.And it is based on some theory of natural disasters to analyze its reasons,characteristic, and damage for people. Then according to the party's thought andpractice about the prevention and relief of disasters, it combines with the reality ofnorthwest area, and propose is to improve the ability of the disaster prevention andrelief, and to provide reliable guarantee for the sustainable development of thenorthwest area.
