This paper summarizes the present state of the domestic and foreign research in delay composition, combustion reaction basic theory for delay composition, the factors influencing the burning rate, the fundamental of thermal analysis technique and the calculation method of parameters of thermal analysis. In addition, thermal analysis technique is adopted to examine the ignition reaction of the research object of B/BaCrO4, as well as Kissinger and Ozawa of thermal analysis method are employed to calculate the activation energy based on experimental data. Moreover, according to the basic theory of delay composition, the selection of the original material of delay composition is studied. Based on practical production and the factors influencing the burning rate, the experimental study for the various delay elements and the equipment method is carried out. Furthermore, the burning rate and the delay precision are examined by means of industrial electric detonator and detonator with shock conducting tube including the delay element being tested. The conclusion is as follows:(1)The B content of B/BaCrO4corresponding to Zero oxygen balance is14.6%, and the corresponding Exothermic peak temperature is minimum; the heat release is maximum; the ignition reaction is solid-solid; the TG carve is nearly not variable.(2)The activation energy of B/BaCrO4ranges from379.96kJ/mol to455.59kJ/mol, and it increase with the increase in the B content.(3)The property of original material of B/BaCrO4has an important effect on the decay time and decay accuracy. The purity of B is not less93.12%with the screening with200meshes and BaCrO4is of the classification of AR, i.e. the purity is not less than99%with the screening with200meshes.(4)The adjustable range of B/BaCrO4is large and the segment from MS-3to MS-15can be produced, In a certain range, the decay time and the length of decay element is basically in the linear relationship, as well as the decay accuracy is good.(5)The accuracy of three core decay element with the formation of positive pressure is better. and a kind of covered technique of decay element enhancing the storage stability is introduced.
