A biomimetic method for the preparation of PET/Ag hybrid fibersand fabric-rubber composites materials was demonstrated. The fiberswere functionalized by dopamine, and the polydopamine (PDA) coatingis found to be a versatile platform for secondary reactions, leading totailoring of the coating for various applications.Firstly, the metal-bindingability of the catechols and N-containing groups present in thepolydopamine coating was utilized for electroless silver plating, and theas-prepared silver layer is continuous, uniform, and compact.The overallprocedure is fast, simple, efficient, nontoxic, as well as controllable. Theas-prepared PET-Ag fibers have good electrical conductivity, with surfaceresistivity as low as0.4mΩ.cm. The binding force between the silverlayer and PET-PDA fiber was strong enough that the silver layer remained compact and continuous after the PET-PDA/Ag fiber was rinsedunder ultrasound for4h. Secondly, the polydopamine functional layerwas used to improve the the adhesion of PET and rubber matrix in thefiber reinforced.The fabrics were functionalized by the polydopamine andgrafting of epoxy resin(EP) utilizing the active hydrogen inpolydopamine.Then the fabrics were coated by the RFL latex. Thefabric-rubber composites materials prepared have high peel strengthwhich is higher than prepared by factory when the fabrics were oversulfurized.The PET/Ag hybrid fibers and fabric-rubber compositesmaterials were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS),contact angle measurement, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD),scanning electron microscopy (SEM),Four-probe electrical conductivity meter and peel strength test.
