Oil-water separation cyclone is one device separating oil out of water in the cyclone through centrifugal force by the use of density difference between oil and water..The hydrocyclone for oil-water separation is a simple and effective device widely used in the petroleum industry. It is an important direction of oil-water separation research to use the hydrocyclone to realize fast, efficient as well as low-consuming separation of oil-water. It is significant to develop new hydrocyclone specially applied in the limited area of the offshore drilling platform which is of small occupation and high efficiency. The hydrocyclone presented in this paper has been put forward basing on rigorous theory analysis and huge meliorations. As a new type oil-water separation hydrocyclone, the device filled gap of the field of hydrocyclone. Different sizes of device have been made to finish the experiments under the laboratory circumstances. The oil-water separation cyclone separation performance experiment validates the immanent connection between its separation performance and flow field characteristics, providing the necessary test data for the CFD calculation and analysis process.A numerical simulation result has been achieved by building geometric models that of the same size and same structure with hydrocyclone used in the experiments and then using Reynolds stress model, applying simple arithmetic after comparison and simulation. With the application of SIMPLE algorithm for numerical calculation of oil-water mixture to different oil phase volume fraction by using the computer, numerically simulating the flow field and the convergence calculated results came out. Oil-water two-phase flow field distribution and separation characteristics gotten inside the cyclone along with the comparative analysis between numerical simulation results and experimental data from two aspects of the flow and the relationship between the split ratio and separation efficiency, manifest the numerical method and the CFD analysis process is correct and reliable. This paper can provide experiences and directions for further research, development and application of this kind of novel cyclone for oil water separation.
