The hydrocyclone for oil-water separation is a sort of equipment that is used to separate materials of different densities. By creating a strong swirl, large centrifugal forces in the process mixture are generated and due to differences in density the materials will separate.The inner flow field in hydrocyclone for oil-water separation and separation characteristic are simulated using the principle and the method of computational fluid dynamics (CFD).By comparing the calculated results with the experimental data, the overall process of program development is determined, upon the sofoware of optimizing the hydrocyclone is designed.Firstly, by researching separation characteristic of hydrocyclone in test site, the inherent connection between the hydrocyclone's separation performance and structure of flow field are verified, upon which to provide experimental data for CFD analysis process.The internal flow field of hydrocyclone is simulated using LRR Reynolds stress model, applying SIMPLE arithmetic and basing on basic theory of hydrocyclone. Distribution law and separation characteristic of oil and water phases flow were obtained by computing. The simulation connection both of flux and separate efficiency and of distributary ratio and separate efficiency all compared with the experimentation data. The two results quite were both close, and the relative error is within 8%. The two results prove that computing method and whole analysis process are correct and reliable.The innovative research work is that the program for optimization design of hydrocyclone was first developed, which bases on the CFD technology for the designer of hydrocyclone. The software integrates of computer technology, numerical simulation techniques, system integration technologies, and seizes on the thought of structural design and optimization parameters. According to actual need for hydrocyclone, which can perform the whole design process of individuating, such as physical modelling, the computation solution, post-processing and analysis of the results.The parameters of the internal flow field and engineering data are obtained. Through choosing different structural models of hydrocyclone and related technical indicators of operation flow to compute, which helps engineers with a comprehensive analysis of the various influential factor of hydrocyclone, the structure size to optimize, and rapid design the high-performance characteristic hydrocyclone for oil-water separation.
