China is an earthquake-prone country, seismic activities are charactered by a wider distribution range, low quake source and high intensity. Since Tang Shan earthquake, most of devastating earthquake in China mainland occurred in rural regions, made great loss of earthquake disasters.At present, new houses which are designed and constructed based on "Specification of Seismic Technology for Houses in Villages and Towns" in rural areas, their seismic safety can be ensured basically. However, as for many existing buildings in rural areas, due to economic conditions, building materials, structure and traditions and many other factors, their seismic capacity can't meet requirements, so seismic reinforcements are urgently needed.In this paper, according to the common seismic defects in timber structure county residence, provide the corresponding joint and lateral reinforcement measures.Then, based on the experiments of a control model and three reinforced models subjected to low cyclic reversed lateral loads, examined the strengthening effective-ness of diagonal brace and sparrow brace for mortise-tenon joint respectively, and comparatively analyze seismic performance of the timber frame model, such as hysteretic behavior, bearing capacity, ductility, lateral stiffness deterioration, et al. In addition, by tests of two wood shear wall models, a good one repaired model, under low cyclic reversed loading. the strengthening effectiveness of wood shear wall for wood frame of county residence and the feasibility of restoration to injury wood shear wall model are examined; Failure patterns, hysteretic curves and skeleton curves are obtained; bearing capacity, displacement ductility, stiffness degradation, strength degeneration, energy dissipation et al are analyzed.The results showed that:both diagonal brace and sparrow brace can improve the bearing capacity and deformation capacity of beam-column joint, and enhance the anti-collapse capacity of the timber frame; Wood shear wall solution can significantly improve the bearing capacity of timber frame, and easy to repair after the earthquake, so it is used to strengthen the timber frame which has a higher requirements to the laterl bearing capacity.
