For twenty years, half-through bridge with its peculiar modeling charm and structural characteristics has a rapid development and has been one of the main bridge styles in China; However, because of its later start, faster development and the replace of subsequent suspenders paid little attention to in the beginning of the design, the suspenders become damage or evenly have need to be replaced. So the study about the breakage mechanism of the suspenders in half-through bridge and replacement plays a vital role, which is the main study content in this paper.This article summarized the half-through bridge in the state of development, characteristics and status of the replacement suspender, summarized the causes and mechanisms of the damage of the suspenders, given the current method of protection and put forward the theory of suspenders design with the fatigue and life theory. as the main method of Replacing the suspender, the temporary suspender engineering method is extremely broad, and the sequence of tension during the construction also becomes critical, this paper made a finite element model using the finite element theory and made a reasonable program of tension sequence.Finally, this paper detailed the specific application of engineering, construction elements and considerations with the method of temporary suspender.The method of temporary suspender has a wide range of application in the replacing suspender engine and becomes effective and practical. More and more arch bridges need suspender replacement.What has been researched in the article can guide the engining of the suspender replacement and has extensive application value and prospects.
