The Study Of Architecture Lime Modeling Craft And Its Preservation In Guangfu Region Of Lingnan District

Lime modeling is one kind of traditional craft in Guangfu cultural region of Lingnan district. It is usually used on different part of traditional building, such as the ridge on roof, the top of wall, the frame of windows and doors, and the surface of water pipe and so on. The lime modeling craftsmen can utilize limited elements to make up many different kinds of themes and to convey plenty of meanings in their works, lime modeling therefore form the splendid Guangfu style sculpture on the traditional buildings.Lime modeling was a wide spread craft during Ming and Qing dynasties in Guanfu cultural region, however, it is nearly extinct in nowadays. The concrete system brought us a great convenient constructed way in building architecture, and it took up nearly the whole constructed marketplace soon, left only little place to the traditional constructed method. The consequence has a long-term influence in our building behavior and architecture interest, result in fewer and fewer people decorate their building with lime modeling, and few people willing to work as an lime modeling craftsman, than the excellent craft fail to hand down from the elder generations. In that case, the repairing of the existing works will be a hard job for us, the creating of the lime modeling must be an impossible mission.The craft of lime modeling was qualified as Intangible Cultural Heritage of China (I.C.H.C.) in 2008, and Chengcun Shao, the leading craftsman in lime modeling business, was qualified as heir of I.C.H.C. in the next year, yet varieties of lime modeling craft have been lost, which can only study from the existing works. Meanwhile, the weak demand of lime modeling works in architecture make things worse.In order to preserve the traditional craft, we have to add something new into the existing lime modeling study field, therefore, the thesis tries to accomplish the following steps: 1.analyst the feature and value of it, to define the factors that should be preserve; 2.record actual state of the craft and its works, to make up a portrait of it; 3.figure out the difficulties that prevent lime modeling from preserving; 4.present the my preserving proposal.
