Partially encased composite (PEC) column is a type of composite column that generally consists of an H-shape steel section with transverse links welded and concrete casted between opposing flanges.The research achievements of PEC column showed it possessed several significant advantages as seismic performance and easy construction of connection details for building located within regions subjected to earthquake.Moreover,the relevant study of PEC column is vacancy in our country,so the investigation on the seismic performance of it under cyclic loading has important effects on its theory and practice.Based on the research achievements of PEC column,the primary aim of the thesis was selecting PEC column fabricated with thin-walled built-up section as the subjected to be studied,combining with current structure design specifications of our nation,four PEC column specimens that some design parameters were taken into consideration was designed by full-size.The cyclic loading test was conducted on the specimens to investigate seismic behaviors of them.According to the datum of the test,it put emphasis on analyzing the effects of layout of strong or weak axis,concrete strength,spacing of transverse links,axial-compression ratios and height-to-width ratios on the load-carrying capacity,rigidity,ductility,deformation,failure mode and internal force-distribution.Besides,the finite element analysis software named ABAQUS was adopted to simulate the monotomic loading performance of the test specimens,the results agreed well with the test,which provided reference for further study of PEC column.All in all,the research on seismic performance of PEC column fabricated with thin-walled built-up section is rather comprehensive and systematic,which would be valuable for amending design code,guiding design in building and laying sound foundation for further study seismic performance of PEC column.
