On account of increasing HVDC transmission project and complex interconnected power system of Shandong Province, voltage stability is assessed and proposals for improving voltage stability are put forward. Basis theory and analysis method for static voltage analysis are expounded, and relevant research achievements at home and abroad are considered. According to the plannings of the state grid and Shandong power grid, research of 13 cities in Shandong power grid is carried out, with the principle that safe and stable operation of Shandong power grid should be guided by research results. The voltage stability limit and margin under present and fault status of the system are accurately assessed in details and effectively when Shandong power grid suffers small or huge disturbance in AC-DC interconnected operation mode. Point index method and continuous power flow method are applied. Simulation calculations carried out by PSSE and PSASP software are used to assess and check the voltage stability, combining with the small disturbance voltage stability calculation. Comparatively weak zones and key points of Shandong power grid are identified. A feasible proposal is that voltage stability can be enhanced by means of improving the regional and near nodes grid construction which increasing reactive power support. Key techniques of voltage stability in the AC-DC interconnected mode are important for the discovery of security and stability risks in Shandong power grid and the improvement of the security and stability operation of Shandong power grid, thereby huge economic and social benefits can be acquired.
