On the basis of GuangZhou Hum en 2nd bridge,this thesis present a 1200m single pylon cable-stayed bridge design project with three cable planes and separate steel box girder according to the engineering geology and hydraogeology of Nizhou waterway. FE model of the whole bridge based on beam element is built using MIDAS/CIVIL2006. Static and dynamic analysis is done to verify the feasibility of the design project. Furthermore, a FE model of dual cable planes design project is built to coMPare the displacement and internal force of the two projects subjected to dead load and moving load.Firstly, the thesis introduced the development and structural characters of long span cable-stayed bridges together with the engineering background and design project briefly. The modeling method of bridge units is introduced in detail and the FE model of the whole bridge is built using these methods. Secondly, the displacement and internal force of the structure during construction and serving stage subjected to the combination of dead load, live load, temperature and wind load is studied. Thirdly, dynamic character of the bridge including the natural frequency and vibration modal is studied using sunspace iteration method. The earthquake response of the bridge is also analyzed using response spectrum method and time history method separately. Finally, a FE model of dual cable planes design project is built to coMPare the displacement and internal force of the two projects subjected to dead load and moving load.Therefore, the static and dynamic characteristics of the long span cable-stayed bridges are comprehensive understood, and the analysis method of similar bridges is also preliminarily mastered by the author.
