The problem of stable combustion of the boiler is an important factor which ensures safety and economic operation of power plants. It is of great practical significance to optimize the design and the transformation of the boiler combustion system. In this paper, we take the 670t/h boiler of Fengzhen power plant as research object, applying combustion theory, to optimize the design and transformation of combustion system.Firstly, we summarized the combustion characteristics and key factors of ignition about low quality coal in different conditions. The adjusting combustion tests were carried out and the boiler temperature field distribution were measured when considering the air speed, oxygen, and the number of oil gun. The results show that the speed, concentration, temperature of primary air and ratio of secondary air is an effect way to improve the ignition and combustion stability during low load.Secondly, a newly direct-flow bias burner was given for #2 boiler of Fengzhen power plant. The low-load stable combustion and to prevent slagging measures were analyzed. The combustion performance test for low load of boiler was carried out, which show that the capacity peaking of the boiler was increased after the burner retrofit. The optimization of the combustion system was under progress to ensure the economy of combustion and maintain the stability of steam and the chamber pressure. Finally, good effect was showed when the boiler cold and hot test were carried out and specific project was reformed in accordance with the transformation plan, Boilers can be stablely combusted without oil under 40% load, temperature overrun of super-heater is basically eliminated with great reduction of slagging, boiler efficiency was achieved to the design level.
