According the data of Shandong power grid and Ningdong-Shandong HVDC system, the electromagnetic transient simulation model of Shandong grid is implemented in the simulation program of PSCAD/EMTDC. The model of AC system included the generator, transformer, transmission line, reactive power compensation devices and so on , whose data all needs to be converted. The original data form of which in PSASP were converted into new data form in PSCAD, then input these new data to the corresponding model in the program of PSCAD and in the model, the electrical connection form of power plant, substation and reactive power compensation device also were confirmed. The electromagnetic transient model of Ningdong to Shandong±660kV HVDC transmission system included converter and its control system, in which the the converter valves, converter transformers, transmission line, AC filters and DC filters were modeled the simulation program of PSCAD/EMTDC.By adjusting the value of equivalent load in the simulation model to confirm that the power flow distribution of grid maintain the original characteristics. A program was completed in the MATLAB graphical user interface development environment GUIDE to verify that the power flow distribution of Shandong power grid is nearly equal under the program of PSCAD and PSASP. By adjusting the impedance of equivalent generator in the simulation model to confirm that the three phase short circuit current of the bus in main substation maintain the original value.The power flow distribution and the short circuit current in main substation of Shandong power grid are confirmed nearly equal under the program of PSCAD and PSASP, which is a simulation platform for the study of typical fault transient characteristics of HVDC system and the impact to AC system protection device when HVDC system occurred commutation failure.
