Human built many important hydraulic structures–– reservoir, dam and dike project. Reservoir, the dam has water storage, flood control, irrigation, power generation and so on to benefit human function, The rivers both banks' embankment protects the humanity from the flood disaster. However, by some natural force or man-made factors, the dam or the embankment also exists the possibility which bursts, has the latent huge danger to the human life and the property. The dam break is one kind of low probability, the high harm social disaster, once it happens, the massive water will release and form the fury of the flood, it will create the ruinous disaster to the downstream detention basin. In earlier period, the dam-break floods are researched by experiments. With the development of the calculation technique and the advance of the numerical method , even more workers simulate the problem of dam break with number calculation. The superiority of numerical simulation has been get more and more reflected.The space-time conservation element and solution element method(CE/SE)is a new mathematical method that is originally proposed by S.C.Chang. It has many advantages such as simple, robust, high efficiency, and high accuracy. Mathematically, the dam-break flood is commonly described by the shallow water equations. The shallow water equations are discretized by the Zhang's modified CE/SE method in this article. And the one-dimension numerical model is constructed. Based on this has further discussed two-dimension dam break flood wave mathematical model.The main content of this paper includes the following items:①The establishment and confirmation of one-dimension dam-break flood evolution model. Application to establish a one-dimensional mathematical model of dam-break flood wave. The river bed slope and bed friction effects are considered, to simulate the collapse of the dam-break moment of the whole problem of flood wave and the calculated and experimental value of the WES were compared and validated.②The practical application of dam break flood wave computation model With specific actual project, the dam-break model that has been established will be applied to forecast flood evolution process when the dam is broken. To catastrophe analysis of the dam-break flood, which provides scientific basis .③Based on space-time conservation element and solution element method for exploring the establishment of two-dimensional mathematical model of dam-break flood wave.Application of space-time conservation element and solution element method, to explore the structure of the grid-based numerical scheme for two-dimensional dam-break flood wave to establish the mathematical model.
