Our country established two-stage design method for the existing norms of the "three level" seismic criteria, Namely, Strength design under the conditions of small earthquakes and checking the elastic and plastic deformation of weak layers parts under severe earthquakes . Here the structure designed explicitly consider only a goal to avoid the structure collapse to guarantee safety under severe earthquake, But for other goals such as maintaining function, repair and so on, are not defined. Based on this, Performance-based seismic design concept is going to come up.Yield Point Spectra (Yield Point Spectra, YPS) is a new constant ductility displacement - Acceleration response spectrum. YPS can be used to the structure of Performance -based seismic design. Based on YPS, Three examples of six story three span, nine story three span and twelve story three span Chevron braced steel frames were designed in this paper, Structural analysis of the nonlinear static and nonlinear dynamic time history Method were done for verification purpose, The results show that: The yield displacement of structure is stability, whether the structure behavior or the story drift achieve the desired goals of our seismic code, Chevron braced steel frame take on a ideal progressively plastic mechanism,The reliability and accuracy of this new design method were proved.
