Under the background of decrease of the energy in the world, the research of the renewable energy in every country is increasing and hybrid wind/photovoltaic power generation system which has good stability and economy is being more widely used. It is important to test the parameters of the hybrid wind/photovoltaic power generation system for evaluating the actual operating performance of the system and determine whether the system meet the design requirements. It is inefficient to use traditional instruments. The concept of virtual instrument is applied to the monitoring system and the design of the hardware and software of the monitoring system is completed in this paper.This paper introduces the basic principle of the wind/photovoltaic generation system and analysis the characters of each component which compose the generation system. The design plan which includes hardware and soft ware is proposed in this paper. Taking the hybrid wind/photovoltaic lamp system for an example, the capacity of the various parts of the system is calculated in this paper.The design of the monitoring system consists of two sections:the design of the hardware and the design of the software. This paper selects the appropriate sensors and monitoring plan based on the PCI-8735 data acquisition card of ART company and the measured signal can be changed into the signal which the data acquisition card can identify. This paper develops the software platform by LabVIEW language. The simple and elegant front panel is designed in this paper. The display program, wind turbine speed and wind speed measurement program, Access database storing program, new data table establishing program and data calling program are designed in this paper. The parameters of the system is collected, processed, displayed and stored real-time by the monitoring system. Besides, datasocket and remote panel technology of LabVIEW is introduced in this paper.Finally, according to the design of monitoring system in this paper the wind/photovoltaic lamp system is installed in SDU Wind Power Research Establishment. The monitoring system in this paper is installed in SDU Wind Power Research Establishment for experiment for 6 months. The results show that the monitoring system has the advantages of accurate data collection.easy to read and display and large data storage capacity, so the monitoring system can reach the requirements of the design. The design in this paper can be used for designing and the optimization of the wind power, solar power and hybrid wind/photovoltaic power.
