In recent year, with the contraction of the global energy sources and the enhancement of the environment consciousness, the clean energy sources have obtained the large development. As a major form in the field of clean energy sources, generating with wind power is developing speedily. Its technique has already been gradually maturing. The wind power generator has the mostly action as one of the main components in the system of wind power generating. In the wind energy domain, in view of the developmental trend of international wind turbines, on the one hand the generator more and more tends the large scale that causes the air blower unit capacity to increase unceasingly; on the other hand, it is most manufacturers focus on the development of small wind turbines. As more small scale wind turbines for civil, small size, easy to install, low cost, high efficiency, so for a variety of geographical and climatic environment. In a variety of generators, the Flux Reverse permanent magnet Machine as a simple structure, high efficiency, no gear box, etc. That is suitable for small wind power systems.Flux Reverse Permanent Magnet Machine is the combination of Reluctance motor and Permanent Magnet motor. It is doubly salient permanent magnet motor structure and performance is improved. FRM is another creative development of SRM (Switch Reluctance Motor). It has high performance PM mounted on the surface of the stator that is easy to be set and is suitable for high speed applications. Because of the flux reverses polarity in the stator concentrated coils, FRM has some advantages of good usage of windings, simple construction and low rotor inertia. This machine can be widely applied in wind power generation, automobiles and aerospace. This paper is derived the design formula of 6/14 pole FRM, preliminary calculations the size of 6/14 pole FRM. In this paper, we identify stator/rotor geometrical design variables and the main dimension of the FRM that influence the cogging torque and inductance using two-dimensional finite element method. The mathematical model of 6/14 pole FRM is established to constitute a good foundation for the further research. This paper calculates the basic parameters and proposes a fast and simple method for the study on end effect of FRM. On the basis of above analysis, the electromagnetic performance using 2D and 3D finite element analyses are compared and a leakage factor reflecting end effect is defined to modify the 2D predicted result, which avoids the time consuming computation workload of pure 3D FE analysis. At last, the experiment of the prototype is done and the results prove that the theoretical analysis is correct.
