Heavy haul transport is a main way to the capacity of railway transport expansion, it has been used widely in our country in receny years.2Co axle type heavy haul locomotive charge the major task of heavy haul transport, it has compact structure, easy maintenance. Meanwhile, because of the long wheelbase, the curve passing dynamics performance of 2C0 axle type locomotive is bad. In the curve passing, the high wheel-rail force will aggravate the wheel-rail wear of locomotive and reduce the life of rail.Lateral free clearance of axle box is a important factor on dynamics performance of 2C0 axle type locomotive, especially on curve passing dynamics. Because of the heavy axle load, the interaction of wheel-rail of the type locomotive is large. In order to reduce the lateral wheel-rail force, wheel-rail wear and improve the curve passing dynamics performance of 2C0 axle type heavy haul locomotive, the thesis analyse the influence of lateral free clearance of axle box on dynamics of the type locomotive, and summarize the rule of clearance'set.A model of heavy axle load 2C0 axle type heavy haul locomotive has been established by multi-body dynamics software Simpack, the thesis analysis the influence of variable lateral free clearance of axle box on the dynamics performance of locomotive. The results show that the influence of lateral free clearance of midwheel axle box on the curve passing dynamics performance of loco motive is obviously, with the value of clearance increase, wheel-rail force, derailment coefficient and wheel-rail wear decrease obviously. This value was influnced by the radius of curve and operating speed of locomotive. Meanwhile, the vibration acceleration of midwheel driving motor was influenced by the variable of lateral free clearance of midwheel axle box, the influence of clearance on transverse acceleration, vertical acceleration and rolling acceleration of midwheel driving motor is obviously. The influence of lateral free clearance of sidewheel axle box on the curve passing dynamics of locomotive is less, however, the amplify of lateral free clearance of sidewheel axle box will reduce the stabilization of locomotive. In order to improve the dynamics performance of this type locomotive, when the locomotive is running on Datong-Qinhuangdao railway which the lowest radius of curve rail is 500m, lateral free clearance of midwheel axle box should be set 13mm, lateral free clearance of sidewheel axle box si not must.
