Pantograph is one of the important components which provide power to electric locomotive. The surface of the slide next to the contact wire, and they form a pair of special friction pair, once the abrasion of the slide reach or greater than a threshold, it will create serious vehicle accident. So it is extremely important for maintenance of the pantograph and security of transportation. A new non-contact pantograph slide abrasion detection method based on optic image detecting technology has been proposed in this thesis. It is a non-contact and non-stopping inspecting way. Image measurement technology which widely used in filed of measurement and camera calibration technology are primarily applied in the abrasion detection system, and these make sure the system meet the requirement of fast, facility and visual displayed.Firstly, this paper introduces some detecting technologies for pantograph slide at home and abroad, gives comprehensive analysis of these detecting technologies, and eventually adopts image measurement technologies to detect abrasion of LV2600-pantograph slide. Secondly, this paper introduces the design framework of this system and the image processing technologies used in the system, including image filtering, edge detection, edge connectivity, camera calibration, corner positioning and so on. In the image filtering process, homomorphic filter is used to decrease the effect caused by uneven illuminate, to enhance the edge features. In the edge detection process, wavelet operator is used to overcome the shortcoming of canny operator. In the calibration subsystem, an improved corner detection method based on SV operator (symmetry and variance) is proposed. And this new method can improve the accuracy of corner detection; at the same time, to some extent, it guarantees the precision of calibration subsystem. Lastly, this thesis describes test process and test results of pantograph slide abrasion detection system. The result of the experiment could meet the application requirements, and this system has a non-contact, fast, intuitive display, high precision, etc. In this thesis, the result of research proposes a workable solution for pantograph slide abrasion detection system of high-speed railway in China.
