Structural optimization theory applied to engineering structural design is structural optimization design, which is a modern design approach to find the most appropriate design in many feasible design methods. It consists of mathematical programming, computer technology and professional theory, which is a scientific design approach and adopted to reduce the investment of the material, financial and human, and create huge social and economical benefits.Reinforced concrete frame structure has flexible layout, low costs and ease of standardized construction, which becoming the most important structure form in our country, and the application will become more widespread. So, reinforced concrete frame structure optimization design has become an urgent. Many research and studies in this area, and have got a few of achievements. Based on the above situation, This paper just discussed the optimization design of reinforced concrete planar frame structure. The purpose is their applications rather than the development of some new optimization technologies. Therefore, this paper analyzed and summarized the achievements and methods of previous studies, and the narrow limitation. What's more, this paper established the optimization design models of reinforced concrete planar frame beam and column. This paper takes the section size and reinforcement area of beam and column as optimization design variables. Then according to the engineering situation and taking the division optimization methods of discrete variables as the structure optimization approach for optimization calculation in many optimization algorithms. To this end, this paper also introduced details of the mathematical programming of discrete variables. Using clear idea in understanding the mathematical reasoning process easily. Then, on the basics of frame beam and frame column optimization. This paper also discussed some problems which exist in optimization design of reinforced concrete planar frame structural, and ultimately established a user-friendly, practical Graphical User Interface Optimization System of reinforced concrete planar frame design. This system inputs finite element analysis parameters and other design parameters interactively, which is fit to the structure Code for design. Automatic computing and data storage can be achieved by operate the procedure simply. What's more, the individual component can also be optimized by special interface program. Finally, the feasibility of optimization design results was verified through examples, which provides some guidance for structure design.This study can provide some referenced guiding principles for application to optimization design of reinforced concrete frame structure, meanwhile, the program also can be expanded. It has great realistic significance.
