Reinforced concrete (RC) frame structure is widely used, which is one of the major structure forms in our country. The traditional structure design pays more attention to the reliability of the structure while the economy is often being ignored. Given that, this paper, based on the mixed programming of MATLAB and ANSYS, develops a program of the optimization design for RC plane frame structures. The program combines finite element method with genetic algorithm in order to take advantages of the two methods. This paper made quantitative researches on the optimization design of its structure at the component level. The main contents are as follows:(1) This paper establishes a mathematic optimal model with the minimum cost as objective function, the relevant regulations in current design criterion as constraint conditions, section size and quantity of reinforcement as constraint conditions the variables for optimal program design.(2) The batch files of internal force analysis are written by ANSYS APDL, which makes the FEM programs operate in the background. The MATLAB program of the optimization design executes the batch files by calling subroutines, which makes MATLAB call ANSYS successfully.(3) The intelligent genetic algorithm is adopted in the optimization program. The GA function based on MATLAB optimal toolbox is the key calculation in the program for optimization design of RC frame structure. Then, saving the results of optimization by the path selector.(4) This paper takes a 4-story and 3-spanhinged RC frame structure as an example, the program in this paper is used to complete the optimization design and generate a results report. The result shows that optimization effect is good and feasible.With a view to the adoption of the study of optimization design for RC frame structure, this paper provides a theoretical guidance and practical significance of reference.
