The tailings pond is one of three major facilities construction of mine. Recently years, the frequent accidents of tailings pond to the safety of people's lives and property have caused serious damage. The dam slope instability is the main failure modes of tailings dam incidents. Accurate calculation of stability of tailings dams can better evaluate the safety of tailings, and provide technical support to the safe operation of tailings project.The main content and conclusions of this article are presented below.This article summarizes the tailings dam stability analysis based on the present research. Numerical analysis method based on strength reduction theory is used to analysis a specific project, compared with the results of the STAB software based on limit equilibrium methods which to analyze the stability of the project, forecasted of dam heightening security to different heights.According to the measurement data saturation line of the dam at present and the correction of geotechnical test parameters, this article obtained by AutoBank simulate different elevation after dam heightening saturation line.ANSYS software which based on the strength reduction theory is used to numerical analysis of stability of tailings dam of different height and get the respective minimum safety factor, and the calculated results with the STAB software control to prove that the method is reasonable. The calculation results show that the strength reduction of the ANSYS software to analyze the stability of the tailings dam has a good applicability.In the computation, we discovered that the destruction of the tailing dam surface appear first chambers beach plastic deformation according to the simulation, and then gradually downwards. The downstream dam slope also begins to appear plastic deformation when the destruction to certain degree, as the interaction between the two plastic zones will soon be through, so that the damage occurred throughout the slope.Comprehensive results of the two methods can analyze the stability of the tailings dam, so as to provide the basis for the actual implementation of the project. Comparing the difference between two algorithms can use for reference of f the future works.
