Seawater is different from traditional oil and water. when It was used as lubrication, needing to choose suitable materials for friction pair. In this paper, thordon is selected as the material of bearing shell, it have good performance of resistance to friction and wear. Through analyzing the performance of hydrodynamic lubrication and isothermal EHL lubrication of thordon bearing when lubricated with seawater, numerical solution is obtained. Through making experiment, the tribological properties of thordon under dry friction, wet lubrication, seawater lubrication is discussed.1) Through establishing model, the effect of speed and load on attitude angle,eccentricity and rise of temperature are analyzed. Based on this, lubricating property of seawater,water and oil is compared.2) An EHL lubrication model for seawater lubrication thordon bearing is constructed to analyze the effect of load,velocity and shaft diameters on thickness and pressure of film. Based on this, lubricating property of seawater,water and oil is compared. The effect of material on thickness and pressure of film were discussed.3) The effect of load and velocity on the friction coefficient is gained by experiment. With the observed worn surface by SEM and an appliance that use to measure outline of roughness the wear mechanism of thorond-steel friction pair is analyzed. The research result has some reference value on the improvement and optimization design of seawater lubrication bearing.
