The urbanization was accelerated by the fast development of the GDP, the population and the size of the city multiply, the city also showed accelerated growth in traffic demand trends. The traffic problem has become the bottleneck of the development of the city. Lacking of the efficiently organized traffic ,and in addition the heavy traffic, the pass efficiency of intersection is low, which increase the fuel consumption rate and count against the environmental protection requirement of carbon emission reduction. The study of adaptive control strategy of the intersection is the efficient method to release the pressure of the traffic and promote the efficiency of the perception of the passing of the intersection. As the important key of the urban traffic, the intersection of the trunk street of city is the principal aim to study and operate the adaptive control strategy.This paper researches the adaptive control strategy of the trunk-branch intersections which are majority belonging to the trunk street. The goal of the adaptive control strategy is to get the vehicle pass fluently on main streets reducing or prolong the phase time and adjusting the passing order of the traffic and to evacuate the vehicle-queue on branch road. The Molecular vehicle-following theory is proposed that based on the similarity between vehicle-following and the mechanical relitionship among each molecules. The Molecular vehicle-following modle and the fluent-dentist formula are set up and certified with the figures and the calculation. The Molecular vehicle-following theory basis for the research on the calculation methods of basic green time, the vehicle queue testing methods, the intersection vehicle queue statistics methods and the vehicle-queues-dredged method. Considering the match of each phase on time,to remodel phase order strategy in order to get the straight traffic flow pass the intersection without stop. According to the control logic frames, the branch point of the intersection and the trunck point of the intersection adaptive control calculation method is designed, which provide the foundation for signal machine control procedures setting. By the real intersection investigation the Molecular linear vehicle-following theory are certified. The Synchro and Vissim traffic emulation software are used to analyze the single self-adaptive control strategies. The design of single self-adaptive control strategy optimizes the single point traffic control system,and provides a reference foundation for the line coordinate control stagegy at the same time.
