The for mer engine cooling pump research mainly based on experim ent, resulted in long design cy cle, high cost, and low quality of the product. This pap er adopts the methods of both simulation analysis and research on the water-cooled engine cooling pump design optimization of cooling water flow, and the optim ized design solutions could be achieved and verified from the test results.The application and advantages of wate r-cooled engines in tricycles area are introduced in this paper, including water circulation system and its working principle. Considering the current key problems such as heat overload, worse cooling effects of the water-cooled tricycle engine in application, the optimization design and simulation analysis of water-cooling pump will be conducted in this paper.A three-dimensional geometrical model of the cooling pump was designed by Pro/E, and the sim ulation m odel including two parts of rotating fluid area, and non-rotating fluid area was for med in HYPERMESH based on the actual application and the body grid m ode was generated by IC EM in this paper. Main boundaries composed of inlet, ou tlet and wa ll Are a. Com bined with the actu al ope ration mentioned above pump in CFX mode and the setting of boundary conditions, the inlet of water pump was set as pressure inlet, the outlet was set as pressure exit and the rest boundaries touching fluid was set as wall area.The main factors on pum p impeller performance are leaf numbers, Angle and impeller plate size. The performance simulation analysis research has been conducted by CFX flow field sim ulation software plat form on the conditions of different set parameters of cooling pump impeller in this paper. Researching results show that the comprehensive performance of im peller has been im proved and cooling pum p mass flow rate was increased by 16% with optim ized design of three m ain parameters of impeller Angle 15°, 6 pieces of leaf number and impeller plate size 45mm.Improved cooling pump im peller optimization comprehensive performance by cooling pump high-lift (outlet pressure) and pump water (mass flow) were verified by testing.
