On the basis of analyzing the current ways of structure seismic retrofitting and in accordance with the design idea of structure damage-reduction, the method of seismic retrofitting which based on the damage-reduction mode is presented. The principles of the strengthening design and the main design points of the damage-reduction unit are illustrated. This method can improve the structure bearing capacitys,the structure ductility and the ability of cosuming energy as well as reduce the earthquake response of the structure when suffering the violent earthquake. A new thoughts of seismic retrofitting of buildings is presented.This paper will first make use of PKPM to set up a five-story frame structure model, which serves as the meta-structure. Pushover analysis method will be adopted to study its seismic performance. The damage-reduction frame will then be added on both sides of the lateral framework, and pushover analysis will be used again to study the seismic performance, compared with that of the original one. Then a reasonable damage-reduction frame will be achieved through a large number of trial counting, restructuring the model and bearing capacity and lateral coloum stiffness and keeping the ratio between the side framework and the original one within a certain scope.Our studies show that a reasonable framework model and a reasonable ratio between the side framework model and the original one will play a good role in relieving the side effects caused by natural disasters, protecting the original framework and therefore enhancing the anti-earthquake effect as well as meeting the needs of seismic retrofitting based on the damage-reduction mode.
