The experiences of earthquake disaster show that effective seismic retrofitting is apositive and effective measure to ensure safety of people. Compared to traditionalmethods of seismic retrofitting, the seismic retrofitting based on damage-reduction modehas the advantages of the seismic design based on structure capability. The paper willchoose the damage-reduction frame as a damage-reduction unit to seismic a structure inthe base of structures seismic retrofitting based on damage-reduction mode, researchingthe design method of damage-reduction frame and giving some advises.The passage firstly talks about the appearance and developing of frame’s plastichinge which influenced by lateral load and therefore finds the develop system of plastichinge which has the slightest effect on structures, then designing a five-story structureusing PKPM program, analyzing the structure which added the additional frames with thehelp of Pushover program, and finding the relation between the capacity ofdamage-reduction frame and original frame under the develop system of plastic hingewhich has the slightest influence on structures that adopted in damage-reduction frame,and proving the develop system of plastic hinge can improve the seismic bearing capacity,after that, changing the lateral column stiffness and bearing capacity of additional frame,and compared the share of the bottom and the deformation of the structure under differentconditions, finding the relation between original frame and the lateral column stiffness aswell as bearing capacity of additional frame when enhancing the seismic capacity of thestructure. After all this analysis, giving some ideas and suggestions of thedamage-reduction frame designing.The studies show that when damage-reduction frame’s plastic hinges develop fromtop to bottom, the seismic bearing capacity can be enhanced to some extent, meanwhilewhen the lateral column stiffness and bearing capacity of additional frame is consistentwith original frame, it will maximum enhancing the seismic capacity of the structure.
