Stepping motor is a servo motor controlled by digital pulse. It's widely used in high precision positioning driving systems which belong to industrial control, digit control machine tool, aeronautics and space etc fields, due to having the characteristics such as high positioning precision, without accumulated error, simple and reliable control etc.Virtual instrument technology has lots of advantage,such as powerful function, great flexibility, opening, software realizing hardware function, meeting individualized design need and so on. So it's widely used in the development of measurement and control system.This paper takes the driving system based on stepping motor as the research object. Designing one automatic test system based on the virtual instrument according to the output characteristic of foregoing driving system. The system can measure the angle and torque characteristic of the tested mechanism. The torque characteristics include holding torque, detent torque and driving torque. The angle characteristics mainly involve stepping angle precision and step response.The test system takes personal computer as hardware platform, the hardware components mainly includes data acquisition card, torque sensor, encoder, servo driver and single-chip system. The data acquisition card takes charge of acquiring the torque sensor signal and encoder signal. The single-chip system is used to operate the tested mechanism. The torque motor plays the role of driver and brake during the torque test. System software designed under the virtual instrument development environment Labwindows/CVI which introduced by American National Instruments company. The software realizes the angle and torque signals synchronization acquisition in real-time, the operational control of the tested mechanism and torque motor, the test data displaying and its corresponding curves drawing, and automatically storing measurement result.After the completion of test system development, we test the simulating mechanism's angle and torque characteristic in the laboratory environment, doing a thorough analysis combined with the phenomenon of test results. The experimental results show that the output characteristics of the tested mechanism which tested by the testing systems is accurate and credible. Later, we test the driving system based on stepping motor, the experimental results show that the test system can realize testing the output characteristics of the tested mechanism in high accuracy.
