Satellite conceptual design is the primary work in satellite systems, it plays a dominant and decisional role in the satellite product development. In order to improve the automation level of satellite conceptual design, as well as the quality and the efficiency, this work apply CACD(Computer Aided Conceptual Design) to satellite design domain, and study on the technic of satellite conceptual intelligent design based on KBE(Knowledge Based Engineering). The central work includes knowledge acquisition, knowledge expression based on ontology, the software used in the whole system, and so on.First of all, experiential knowledge of expers has a great effect to satellite design. This work put forward the method for implicit knowledge acquisition based on concept maps. For making up for the shortage of traditional concept maps expression on complex knowledge, tables are employed along with concept maps in the method. Whereafter, concept maps, which express the knowledge in satellite conceptual design, are drawn by this method. Due to the similarity of concept maps and ontology expression on knowledge, the foundation of satellite ontology building is laid.Then, the ontology building method based on concept maps is proposed, the conversion from knowledge concept maps to OWL ontology model comes true. By this way, knowledge ontology repository is build according to concept maps. In addition, SWRL rules are established as well.Finally, the architecture of CASCD(Computer Aided Satellite Conceptual Design) system is designed by making use of protégéand Jess software tools. On one hand, satellite knowledge ontology repository is build in protégé; on the other hand, SWRL rules are established by SWRL plug-in provided by protégé. Later the CASCD prototype system is finished, and is validated by taking an example of FY-2 satellite.
