Semi-rigid asphalt pavement structure is the main form of high grade pavement in our country. However, the early damage of semi-rigid asphalt pavement is a serious problem. There are so many early damages occurred in the built highway asphalt pavement that some highway has pavement destructions in one or two years after opening to traffic. Sometimes, even if we fully compliance with the design methods and standards can't we ensure good performs of the pavement. Because the existing design methods don't design to performance requirements and structural requirements for different positions in the road. This paper will do some research on semi-rigid base asphalt material's index of functional design.Firstly, this paper does some research on the causes of early disease analysis about the semi-rigid asphalt pavement and analyzes the three-force status of asphalt pavement according to the simulation by ABAQUS finite element software. After combining it with the diseases of the pavement, this paper proposes the functional requirements of semi-rigid asphalt road and develops surface structures base on the function.Secondly, according to the functional requirements get from above and considering normal index requirements, author makes researches of design index about ultra-thin wearing course, high modulus mixture layer, stress absorbing layer. Researches are mainly on surface properties, anti-water damage property and low temperature performance properties of the ultra-thin wearing course; and do the research about the high temperature performance, low temperature performance and fatigue properties of high modulus mixture, including three kind of high-temperature performance test(rutting test, dynamic modulus test, repeated load permanent deformation test) to evaluate its high temperature stability in three ways; the resist deformation and fatigue properties of stress absorbing layer were studied. Based on the research above, this paper puts forward some asphalt mixture functional design indexes and control standards.Finally, the results on the base of functional design are laid into the test road. The data collected from the test road and Fiber Bragg Grating sensor is analysed to proving the feasibility of the functional design.
