This dissertation, comparison research between Ming and Qing period Chinese provincial city as called,"ChengShi"and Korean provincial city that called"Eup-Seung"in Joseon period. Analyze the circumstances of two nations'provincial cities. In addition, make a further investigation about their characteristics and differences.During study, begin with selecting relatively well conserved urban heritage, PingYao ancient city in China and NakAn city in Korea was choosed to be the main research object. This research was achieved by perusing historical material, including main document《山西通志》and《平遥县志》of PingYao and topographical books of JoSeon Dynasty as《舆地图书》and《乐安邑志》. Furthermore, field research about PingYao and Nakan was done for getting actual information of two cities. Because the scale in the literature has a difference between Chinese and Korean, apply the actual numbers of city for measuring other object cities and get concrete result in comparing.Through the research, on the location of PingYao ancient city and NakAn city, Pingyao, Yongning and Fenzhou all locate on broad plain; NakAn locate just one-Li distance from mountain. About scale of the city, city in Shanxi province, except PingYao and TaiGu (about 12 Li), almost every Xian degree city has scale of three to five Li; cities in JeonRa province which degree below Gun have 1000~5000Chi. About the plan of city, the government facilities are inner to city wall, especially that of PingYao's placed slightly west and that of NakAn's placed north. The former cause by corresponding to urban temple, ChengHuangMiao, the latter cause from design conception setting the Capital city HanYang for an exemplary.About Chinese ancient"ChengShi"and"EupSeung", both empody protective meaning of"Cheng": the former has populated and flourishing economical activity of"Shi"; the latter has symbolized territory and political meaning of"Eup".
